6TH GRADE

6th grade artists explore a variety of materials and techniques, including drawing, painting, and sculpture. Some examples of the many art projects include yarn paintings based on Huichol Indian designs, paper mache masks, fantasy perspective room drawings, Georgia O'Keeffe flower paintings, African textile designs, and much more. Each lesson seeks to meet the "Alabama Visual Art Course of Study grades 6, 7, 8" standards. Students are encouraged to do their best work on each project, and to behave with courtesy and respect toward the teacher and fellow classmates. At the end of the grading period, each student is asked to submit their best piece for display in the annual art show. In addition, art pieces are periodically displayed in the school hallway next to the art room. 6th grade students are evaluated with a grade for this class. Finished artwork is graded based on 3 main criteria: 1. creativity/originality 2. craftsmanship/neatness 3. participation/effort
