7TH GRADE ART

Currently, there are two 7th grade art classes offered; both meet for one semester. Students learn basic drawing, painting, and design skills as well as art history, criticism, and aesthetics. Some of the many 7th grade art projects could include tessellations, painting animals in the style of Ancient Egypt, Roman paper mosaics, Greek clay comedy-tragedy masks, Impressionist landscape painting, weaving, carving, and much more. Each 7th grade lesson seeks to meet the Alabama Visual Art Course of Study Level I standards. It is important for middle school students to experience the creative process, and there is ample opportunity for them to experiment with a variety of media and techniques in this class. Students are expected to work hard and to behave with the utmost courtesy and respect toward the teacher and fellow classmates. 7th grade can be a very challenging time, and art class offers students a chance to work together, to take responsibility for materials, and to simply enjoy the act of creating something beautiful.
