FROM PRINT TO CARD

MAY 5 & 6, 2016

Today in Art class students used their prints to make cards in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. One of the best reasons to make art is to bring beauty to someone's world and to encourage others! Art has so much power to make the world a better place. Middle school students are at a stressful age and they are beginning to seek independence. It is vitally important for them to think about what they value in others, even those in authority. Expressing thanks is always a good thing, and so is developing an "attitude of gratitude!" Fine art printmaking results in "multiple originals," which gives the artist many opportunities to bring beauty into someone else's world.

Professional fine art printmakers sometimes go into business making handmade greeting cards. The printing plate is created with linoleum, wood, or another medium. The artist uses high quality inks, pulls the edition of prints on quality papers, and then creates the invitations or greeting cards. Often, artists will even use handmade paper!

I am very, very happy with the images my students invented for this project. Every single picture is unique, just like the kids, and it was such a pleasure to watch students experimenting with colors and painted papers this week:

Objectives:
I can work on making "Thank You" cards for six of my teachers.

Directions: Cut out the printed image. Use a glue stick to attach it to the front of the card. Use markers to embellish (decorate) the image. Write a message on the inside. Sign your name. Leave them in your cubby until you turn them in.
